EL-CID is a portal page for sharing and learning from the ongoing work of the departments and programs that are part of the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate. Click on a discipline to see a list of all available snapshots sorted by department name. Snapshots are text and image portrayals of department’s goals and work for the CID.

Readers are urged to start with the “CID Work” snapshot, which gives the big picture.  “Innovations” provide details about new innovations that departments are implementing as part of the CID. “Exemplary Elements” are preexisting features of doctoral programs that others might want to learn more about. Snapshots on summer 2005 convening topics highlight successful program elements and unanswered questions.

Resources for CID Participating departments are found at the bottom of this page, and include instructions for creating snapshots.

2005 CROSS DISCIPLINARY SUMMER CONVENINGS SNAPSHOTS: Three convenings were held in the summer of 2005, each included departmental representatives from each of the six disciplines. The three themes for the convenings were: Developing Effective Teachers, Developing Researchers and Scholars, and Supporting Intellectual Community.

NEWS and RESOURCES
These resources will help you create your snapshots. The videotape is a presentation by Deborah Hinterliter at the summer convening in Education, describing her experiences with creating snapshots. It is about 30 minutes long. The "quick start guide" is tailored for the CID.

El CID is the name of the legendary 11th century Spanish hero Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar. El Cid means “the Lord”, because of his nobility, courage, and spirituality. This statue guards the Puente de San Pablo in his hometown of Burgos, Spain.
